Terminate the Authorization for Use of Military Force

Rescind President Bush's war making powers for abusing that power in launching the Iraq war. Even if the world is better off without the former dictator of Iraq Saddam Hussein the President lied to start a war to make Iraq a democracy. There were no weapons of mass destruction. What's more the former Iraqi regime had no ties to the terrorists responsible for the 9/11 attacks.

It is amazing to me that a group of educated, intelligent members of congress should in good conscience pass a law that allows the president this amount of power when it comes to military force. What kind of precedent are we setting when we allow the executive branch almost unlimited power? President-for-life perhaps? So much for democracy. Please terminate the Authorization for Use of Military Force.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Please revoke or terminate the hideous Authorization for Use of Military Force, if you have not already done so. If you need help from me, from the American public, to do so, please let me know. Help me, as they say, to help you to help me. It's a very slippery slope to a fascist state, and once it looks obviously and to everyone LIKE one, it is very much too late to do much about it. Also, it can be one and NOT be obvious to most people, and just stay that way - unfree, unAmerican - indefinitely.
Thank you for reading, thank you for all of your most excellent actions for upholding of the Constitution and the American way.
All the best,
Helen Hillsman Heath

The war in Iraq has been a disastrous mistake from its inception. It must be ended quickly and, even more important, the AMF must not be used to launch another war -- in Iran or anywhere else in the world. Our nation should stand for PEACE and not for wars of aggression. Let us return to building cooperation among nations, and work to regain our image as a positive force for good, rather than continue as an aggressor and destroyer. We have been acting as terrorists, ourselves: using terrible weapons and massive, unlawful force.

It was not the intention of our Founding Fathers for the President to have unlimited powers. Please rescind the AUMF so that we will not be subjected to another unwanted, unwarrented war.

I've got some more troops for you to help with the continuation of this invalid horrendous war. Please enlist those policemen that kill bridegrooms and old women in their beds and send them straight to bloody Bagdad. Those trigger-happy policemen want to kill somebody, and we can use them in Bagdad. Bring the rest of our troops home immediately. Our Congress said the same thing about Viet Nam. "They'll be a bloodbath if we pull out." Well, there is a blood bath with our troops there. It's a no-win situation. Even Kissenger said that we can't have a military victory. Bring our boys out of the war zone and leave those F--king policemen to take charge.

This President should be behind bars for his crimes against humanity and his deceptions to the American people and the United Nations. The LEAST we should do is prevent further devastation. He and his staff SHOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT be allowed the power to use military force!

Terminate the Authorization for Use of Military Force 650,000 Iraqi's dead, 22,000 Americans wounded, nearly 3,000 Americans dead, 4 years of war and destruction - no WMD's and no exit plan. The situation is getting worse every day. Who is the terrorist here? Saddam was less of a threat than our President is. Take away Bush's power to wage war by withdrawing AUMF. Like a 5 year old driving a bus, President Bush has proven that he is totally incompetent.

The Bush administration has repeatedly misused 2001 AUMF and now plans to use it to authorize attacking Iran. It is time to stop the madness. Please help withdraw 2001 AUMF now, before more harm is done. Thank you.

It is terrifying that George W. Bush, a president so ignorant of military affairs and so unwise in foreign policy, has the authority to take this country to war. It is time to cancel the 2001 AUMF so that our president can no longer rush us into battle based on lies.

I do not think the president should ever have unlimited powers. We vote for members of the House and Senate to balance the powers of the government. This makes for better decisions that effect all of the citizens of this great country. take away The AUMF so we will not begin another invasion. EH

We all feel kind of rosy and relieved that the recent elections sent an important message. The reality is that Bush and his cronies haven't heard the message or intend to ignore it.

Please consider terminating the "authorization for use of miltary force" power of the president because I, and I believe that most of America, have seen what can happen when this power is abused in lite of what is going on in Iraq.

It is time for Congress to stop washing its hands of the blood poured out by our Presidents. Our lawmakers need to take responsibility for debacles like Vietnam and Iraq by making sure that it never happens again. Never again should the horrors of war be foisted so carelessly on our young people. Any military action that lasts more than 14 days should require a formal declaration of war -- and declaration of war is and should be the responsibility of Congress alone. Our founders said that "Taxation without representation is tyranny." We need to assert that war without representation is absolute tyranny. We need to make war the prerogative of Congress alone once and for all.

War is not the answer. When will we stop being an imperialistic nation who uses patriotism to motivate its citizens? True patriotism creates a country that is loyal to humanity and allowing everyone to have health care and not go hungry. Instead this administration links patriotic behavior to fighting and killing. We can demonstrate loyalty to our country by acting to keep this planet healthy, not by selfishly abusing our environment because we need to consume.

The primary law of the United States Federal Government was set forth in the U.S. Constitution ("Constitution"), which provides that the first branch of government is the Legislative Branch ("Congress"). Pursuant to Article I, Section 8, Congress has certain powers and obligations regarding oversight of foreign affairs, including the powers to: (1) declare war, (2) raise and support the armed forces, and (3) tax and spend for the common good. Congress has, during this present administration, abdicated the powers and duties assigned it by the framers. Now is the time for congress to reassert itself.

Congress -take back your power! Please rescind what the Bush Administration sees as a blank check to do as it pleases. Remember - that power can also be used against ordinary citizens - including you and your family. Is that what you want?
