Make Federal Contractors Disclose Their Political Contributions Now
There is no disputing the principle that the president of the United States has executive authority over federal agencies. Included in that administrative authority is the promulgation of regulations over how federal contracts are awarded, as long as those regulations are not in direct conflict with any existing laws.

And that is why there can be no doubt that President Obama, with the stroke of a pen, can require federal contractors to disclose their political contributions. Such an action, limited to only those seeking payments from the federal treasury, is clearly constitutional and would be upheld by any court, until such time as Congress has the will and courage to act on a broader basis.

For those who argue that spending money in the form of political contributions is equivalent to free speech we say this: Having secret campaign contributions is not free speech at all. Rather is it a claim for the freedom to NOT speak, at least publicly. It is a call for secret corruption of our political system. This is the last thing our founders would have endorsed.

Already 850,000 people have spoken out, from a broadly diverse group of good policy advocacy groups, on this. And that number is headed for more than a million soon.

Let President Obama sign an executive order on this now.
